Past Projects > PADS 3: Like a Tree Planted by Water

In 2012 we painted four murals for the Country Club Hills Wellness Center, a new temporary housing facility for homeless individuals and families in the south suburbs. PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) is the agency responsible for creating this new state of the art residence, and our murals address themes related to transitions, community, vocational training, and hope. This mural is inspired by the quote below:

“He is like a tree planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.”
Psalm 1

This mural focuses on the theme of personal development and positive growth. The central image -- of a mother and father standing in an open field, with the boy’s arms outstretched -- mirrors the tree’s branches stretching out and growing strong. The other images foster further relationships between child development and nature. The growth of a seed to a fruit is much like the growth of a child to an adult. The arrows are in the shape of a scripture, referencing the biblical source of the quotation, and suggest further growth and new life
off the edge of the mural.
